I thought I would continue blogging, now that my little girl is 4 months old now and I get a little "me" time here and there.
After my first 100 day challenge success, I decided to join it again and a couple of weeks in, I found out I was pregnant. Hurray! I was so worried about gaining the weight back but I stayed on track with clean eating. Unfortunately, I had such bad morning sickness I was not able to work out. Just making it through a day of work was a victory. Through my whole pregnancy I gained 20 pounds. I delivered a 10 pound 5 ounces beautiful baby girl in July and I came home from the hospital 5 pounds lighter than when I first found out I was pregnant. I thought, "Wow This is just amazing". Then the breastfeeding came. I never knew how challenging it would be. We finally got in our groove but the hunger I experienced after feeding her was unreal. I have never felt that kind of hunger, even if I had gone a whole day without eating. Unfortunately, we were also in a car accident when the baby was 5 weeks old. Someone rear ended us at a stop light and totalled our car. That is a whole other story that I won't get in to right now. I now freak out if I see someone texting and driving though. The accident put me back with working out. I am still not able to hold my head up at the end of the day and I get headaches constantly. Anyway, it has been 4 months and I have gained 20 pounds back. This is not what I had in mind. Now, I am trying again. I am back on track with clean eating and I have been back to the gym a few times.
This blog will track my progress with tips and tricks for working out and being healthy while on maternity leave. For a new mom, it is much harder than I thought it would be. When I was pregnant at work, I would think to myself, "I am going to have so much time to work out when I am at home"; NOT! I am lucky to get a shower in and do the dishes. Luckily, my husband has told me he will watch the baby while I go to the gym. Awesome!
So far, I am enjoying my protein shakes again and I am keeping things simple. I am always looking for something fun to throw in once and awhile. Last night I made beet and ricotta ravioli, and they turned out great. I froze some too. I am definitely getting in the habit of making enough to freeze, so I can pull something out and make it quick on one of those crazy no nap days.
I have started out light in the gym. Walking on the treadmill. I am hoping to do another 5k in the New Year. I am sticking with squats, lunges, some dumbbell presses and curls. Always making sure to keep good form, so I don't make my injuries from the car accident any worse.
It feels nice to be back at it! I hope everyone is keeping their heads up out there! It is never to late to start again.
